What is it about red lipstick that literally screams strong, feminine power?I have never understood it. Yet I have seen it in action! It absolutely does not matter what you are wearing. It does not matter how dull you may look! Just that touch of red lipstick and you are ready to rock n roll!!Every girl MUST have at least one red lipstick in her stash. I actually am guilty of having several many of them 😛 Today I am reviewing the iconic MAC Russian Red Lipstick! Apparently, back in the 90’s Madonna mentioned it as her favorite. Since then, there has been no looking back for this lipstick. This has been the No. 1 MAC red lipstick for almost 30 years now!! You heard it right-despite their iconic Ruby Woo!!Look at Rekha!! She absolutely looks gorgeous in her matte Russian Red 🙂 No wonder it’s an absolute favorite of actresses and celebrities!!
What is it and who is it for?
A Matte Red Lipstick. Suitable for all you ladies, who are feeling bold today 😉
Rs 1450 / $17
What the Brand Claims about MAC Russian Red Matte Lipstick:
Formulated to shade, define and showcase your lips. This Iconic product has made MAC famous.
How to Use:
Exfoliate your lips well. Apply a lip balm, at least 10 minutes before, applying this matte lipstick.
My Experience with MAC Russian Red Lipstick:
This lipstick comes with the standard sturdy MAC bullet. I absolutely love their simple and sturdy packaging!
The lipstick itself is a creamy matte. Unlike their retro matte finishes that tend to dry the lips, this one does not dry the lips that much. It is really smooth to apply and does not drag on the lips.
I strongly recommend you exfoliate your lips with a soft toothbrush/lip scrub before applying this lipstick. The lipstick looks really bad on chapped lips.I myself prepped my lips before these swatches.
Russian Red has a light vanilla scent that is typical of MAC lipsticks. It is not bothersome and vanishes after a few minutes. So this will definitely not bother even sensitive noses! The quality of these lipsticks is great.Till now, I have never heard a single bad experience from anyone. The staying power of this lipstick is also really good. Typically it would last between 5-6 hours without touch-ups. Once it sets, it does not transfer much. The only time you have to be careful is when you are eating cheesy or oily stuff.
As you can see from the swatches, this is a universal red.It is a slightly cool toned red which will look good on most skin tones. This is a great color to suit Indian wear. A must-have for the wedding season and brides to be!!
For your benefit, I have taken swatches in sunlight as well as normal lighting.
MAC lipsticks have undoubtedly the best quality. Actually, at times, I feel it’s worth buying a single MAC lipstick, compared with buying 2-3 lipsticks from drugstore brands.

Out of all the red lipsticks of MAC’s matte range Ruby Woo and Russian Red are two cult favourites.. How are these two colours different from one another?
