Epsom Salt Benefits for Skin , Hair and Health :Epsom Salt is a sulfate salt of magnesium whose scientific name is Magnesium Sulphate. This is a mineral salt named after a spring in England’s Surrey area. This is an entirely different compound than normal table salt or Chloride of Sodium but is a look-alike of the common salt. Epsom salt is a white crystalline substance with several therapeutic properties. Since the ancient times, the healing power of this salt is known and cherished. This post sums up a few of the Epsom Salt Benefits.
# No More Smelly Feet
Accumulated sweat in the feet often causes bad smelling feet. This problem can easily be solved with a simple Epsom salt soak. Mix ¼ cup of Epsom salt in 3-4 liters of warm water and soak the feet in this concoction for 8-10 minutes. Follow it up with a quick spray of rose water or baby powder and your feet would be bad smell free for the day!
# Blackhead Cure
Stubborn blackheads are nothing but impurities trapped the pores of the face. They are very hard to remove sometimes but with a little Epsom salt, this trouble can be sorted! Mix a pinch of medium grounded Epsom salt in your cream cleanser or cleansing milk and scrub off your blackheads with it. You can follow up with the rest of your beauty routine as usual.
# Body Exfoliation
The body skin is not so delicate like our facial skin and it tends to be cleansed frequently to avoid dead cell build-up. Body scrubs don’t come that cheap especially if you want a good quality one. But, you can easily make your custom body scrub with Epsom salt. Take 3 tablespoons of any skin-friendly oil (olive oil is my personal favorite!), 2 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional) and 1 tablespoon heaped Epsom salt in a bowl. Mix well and your own version of body scrub will be ready!
# Get Over with Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a dry skin related ailment where the skin gets dry and scaly. Epsom salt soaks are often used to loosen the scaly skin so that the skin nourishing moisturizer can prevent further scaling. For this kind of skin soak, use 2 teaspoon olive oil with 1 tablespoon Epsom salt and 2-3 liters of warm water. Soak the affected area in the water for 5 minutes and then moisturize heavily.
# Turn Your Regular Face Wash into a Deep Cleansing One
Our face gets exposed to environmental pollutants every day. To reverse the damage caused by these foreign elements, deep cleansing is absolutely necessary. To get rid of the day to day skin damages the Epsom salt trick always works. Grind Epsom salt into fine texture and store in an air-tight container. Add just a pinch of this powder to your regular face wash and it would turn into a deep cleansing facial wash!
# Remove Product Build-up
Excessive use of silicone-based conditioners, moisturizing hair care products and leave-in styling products often leave residues in the scalp. The hair gets limp, scalp becomes a sanctuary for the fungus and various hair issues like dandruff and hair loss begin. To get rid of product build-up Epsom salt rinse can be used. To prepare the rinse mix 2 tablespoons of any mild shampoo, 1 teaspoon Epsom salt, and ½ cup lukewarm water. Use this as the first rinse of your hair wash.
# Chemical Free Hair Spray
If you love beach waves in your hair then Epsom salt can be your best buddy because you can make your own version of hairspray with it. You will need ½ teaspoon finely ground Epsom salt, 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel and 150ml water. Pour everything into a spray bottle and shake well. Voila! Your hairspray is ready to use!
# Get Rid of Head Lice and Fungal Infection
The anti-microbial properties of Epsom salt help in treating head lice and fungal infections in the scalp. Dissolve 2 tablespoon Epsom salt in 300ml water and use this as the hair rinse for every hair wash for lice problem. A hair pack can also be prepared by mixing 3 tablespoons fresh neem leaf paste, 2 teaspoon amla powder, 1 tablespoon Epsom salt and plain water.
# De-stress and Detoxify the body
Epsom salt is rich in detoxifying minerals. A warm water soak of Epsom salt is all you need after a stressful day. It will ease the stiff muscles of the body and give you a nice rejuvenated feel. If you are experiencing muscle pain and soreness, the soak will take care of that too. To make a body soak you will need 2-3 cups of Epsom salt. If you do not have a bathtub, you can mix a cup of salt in your bath water.
# Treat Constipation
Epsom salt helps in osmosis of fluids in the intestines and bowel movement. Use of this salt for constipation is quite popular. For this, take a glass of lukewarm water and dissolve 1 teaspoon Epsom salt in it. Drink this after dinner for a few consecutive days for better results.
# Diabetes Care
Epsom salt is high in magnesium and sulfate. These two substances help to increase the insulin level of the body. The warm water + Epsom salt trick works for diabetes control as well.
# Cure Sleep Disorder
Due to the hectic and stressful lifestyle, the disruptive sleeping pattern has become a common concern. The relaxing properties of Epsom salt can be used to bring regularity in sleeping pattern. It is best to have a warm bath with Epsom salt mixed water at a fixed time every night before hitting the bed. The muscles get relaxed with the bath to ease out the body to get sound sleep.
