Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Review

by Smriti S

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation: I just love foundations that are pocket-friendly, and perform well, irrespective of the season. In winters, we need foundations that don’t dry out our skin and in summers, we need foundations that don’t make our skin oily. In search of the perfect foundation, I came across the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation that claimed to provide a shine free look for up to 12 hours. Wow. That sounds good, right? Especially for all the oily-skinned beauties out there! Read on to know if the product was wow or not.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

What is it?

Rimmel stays matte foundation contains a unique natural shine control complex for up to 12 hours of flawless matte coverage. It contains chamomile to help calm and soothe the skin, cucumber to clarify the skin and cotton to help control shine especially for oily skin. It is talc free, oil free, paraben free and fragrance-free which makes it an ideal foundation to be in your make-up bag.

Price and quantity

Rs 450 for 30 ml

My experience with Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

Packaging

It comes in a rectangular tube kind of packaging, with the color of the packaging resembling the shade of the foundation. The cap is a twist mechanism and opening and closing of the cap are sturdy.

Colour and texture

The name of the shade is “sand” and is more of a neutral shade that will suit most of the wheatish to fair skin tones. There is no shade card there to choose the shades.

Fragrance

It smells like a batch of chemicals, I didn’t like the fragrance, even though it claims to be fragrance-free

Experience

I saw the Rimmel London foundation online, which claimed to contain chamomile, cotton, and cucumber, all the three are known to soothe and calm the skin. I immediately purchased it since I got it for some offer as well. Also, the product claims to be apt for oily skin which controls shine and basically doesn’t make the face oily. I have always had oily skin and thought this product would be apt for my skin type. I applied this product without moisturizing my skin and noticed flaking of my skin. The skin on my face felt dry and it was drying out. My skin felt stretchy too. So, first, I moisturized my skin well and then applied this product. I noticed that the product blended well (I used a brush). It stayed for a good 5 hours on my skin. Neither did it clog my pores, nor did it cause any breakouts. Also, I tried using my fingers and the product became powdery (even though it is a liquid) and just fell out by becoming dry when I tried to dab and blend it in circular motions. There are loads of issues with this product, some of them being less staying power, not covering blemishes, flaking off of the product and drying the skin, product becoming powdery. Hence I wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone.

Would I repurchase or recommend this?

I will not repurchase this, nor will I recommend it

Rating: 2.5/5

Glossypolish verdict: The Rimmel London foundation comes in a variety of shades and “sand” is a neutral shade that suits a spectrum of skin tones. But a lot of product is required for the face and it stays only for 5 hours (max) and it flakes even if you have oily skin. So this is definitely not recommended.
