The name actually comes from the outlook of this strange looking fruit. A mature Rambutan is a round ball-shaped fruit which has a red-orange shell with spines of the same color. The inside part of this fruit is white and juicy. In the core, there is a black colored seed. The fruit is sometimes mistaken for lychee or longan but rambutan is much bigger in size than these and its spines look different as well. Yes. It is quite similar in looks but rambutan is much bigger than litchi..
