NYX Conceal Correct Contour Palette Review

by Ankita Bhattacharya

Hello beautiful people!

A sculpted face with just the right amount of contouring as well as highlighting is all that makeup gurus talk about these days. Gone are the days when simply putting on foundation and face powder were enough to get the perfect makeup. This is the time of beautifying the prominent features of the face and giving the face a sculpted and chiseled look. Also, unless you are one of those people who is blessed with an even-toned skin, you probably require a corrector to even out the pigmented regions of your face.

This is what I had in mind when I bought the NYX Conceal Correct Contour Palette. There are three shades available: light, medium and deep. Being a medium toned girl, I decided to get the medium shade of the palette.

I had high hopes for this product however, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Read further to find out why.

My Experience with NYX Conceal Correct Contour Palette

Packaging:

Now, to me, the packaging is an important factor that makes me rather inclined towards buying the product. I must say that the packaging of this product is quite attractive. It has sturdy packaging which instantly cancels out the chances of damage/breakage. As I said, there are three shades available: light, medium and deep. There are total six colors which come in rectangular slots and the shade arrangement looks beautiful. Due to its sturdy packaging, the product is of course travel-friendly.

Texture:

The shades have a very creamy texture, to a point where they almost feel quite waxy. Due to the highly creamy texture, it is difficult to blend the product. The creaminess of the product, however, doesn’t cause creasing around the eye area or around the smile lines. Yet, it feels thick while applying onto the face.

Shade:

As discussed above, there are six shades in this product.

1st Row: The two shades in this row can be used a concealer. The first color has a yellow undertone which is suitable to medium skin tone while the second shade has a pinkish undertone which could be used by fair toned people.

2nd Row: These are the darkest shades of the palette. The first could be used for correcting purpose as well as a concealer for duskier skin tones. The second shade is the darkest brown and can be used for contouring.

3rd Row: The first shade in this row is a beautiful yellow highlighter which is perfect for hiding pigmented undereye as well for highlighting the cheekbone area. It can also be used to highlight the nose, cupid’s bow, and forehead. The second shade is a peach corrector which can be used to over pigmentation but is best suited for fair skin tones.

A notable point is that the shades swatch quite differently than how they look in the palette.

My experience:

Shade-wise, I feel that the product is not of much use for me. I literally just use the yellow shade at the bottom left corner of the 3rd row. I feel like this product is best for eye socket and highlighting the cheekbones. Though the first two shades can be used as a concealer I prefer using some other concealer due to the difficulty of blending out the product. The darkest shade, which I believe is for contouring gives a sunkissed touch to the face. But personally I prefer a more sculpted look and if you want that ‘Kim Kardashian’ kind of contour this is not for you. Moving onto the corrector, the palette has a peach corrector which would be efficient in hiding pigmentation for fair-toned people. However, it looks ashy on my medium skin-tone.

Further, for me blending out this product is a difficult task due to its thick texture. I have to use my fingers simultaneously along with a wet beauty blender to get the perfect finish. You cannot blend this product out with the help of a brush at all. Now, I don’t like wasting time while doing makeup so this time-consuming procedure is a no for me.

Overall performance of NYX Conceal Correct Contour Palette

Pros:

  • Versatile palette
  • Nice packaging
  • Pigmented shades
  • Ideal for highlighting
  • Budget-friendly

Cons

  • Difficult to blend
  • Not ideal for contouring
  • Colors swatches differently
  • Feels heavy on face

OVERALL RATING: 3/5

Would I recommend/repurchase?

I would personally not repurchase this product as I have to use a separate cream contour and concealer anyway. I feel like it is very subjective and depends on different people’s skin tone and how they like to do their makeup. I would rather go for a separate orange corrector as well as other products. Though, this is a good alternative for beginners, people who are used to doing makeup might as well opt for different products altogether.
