My Experience with NYX Afternoon Heat Butter Lipstick

Packaging:

The lipstick comes in a traditional bullet packaging and there’s a transparent ring in the middle through which you can see the actual color of the lipstick. The packaging itself is color coordinated which is great when you have several lipsticks in your vanity so you don’t have to fish through your entire collection to find the particular shade. Though the lipstick is a bit broad, it is small and doesn’t take up much space. The product is sturdy and the cap shuts tightly, nothing flimsy. The product is therefore travel-friendly.

Texture:

The texture of this lipstick is so smooth; it literally feels like butter on the lips. It glides smoothly and covers the entire lips in one go. It almost feels like applying a lip balm. The intense creamy texture feels quite heavy on the lips and though the brand claims that the product is hydrating it doesn’t really fulfill the statement. It’s not really moisturizing and the thick, creamy texture just sits on the lips and I actually felt uncomfortable with the product the first time I applied it. Also, I highly recommend exfoliating you’re before applying this lipstick because it settles into fine lines on the lips. I have tried several creamy lipsticks but none of their textures irks me as much as this one does. It is super creamy and has a thick consistency so the texture is a big no for me.

Shade:

The only thing I love about the lipstick. It is a beautiful fiery red color. It is bold, just like I wanted my red lipstick to be. It has warm undertone to it so it is perfect for Indian beauties, though it might look a bit over-the-top on fair skin tone. It compliments my medium skin tone perfectly and I can see my face transform in seconds after I apply this lipstick. It is the perfect shade to b worn at parties and you can even pull this off with casual outfits when you want people to focus on your face.

Pigmentation:

Another hit or miss in this range. Though darker colors are obviously more pigmented than the lighter ones, I found that this product is not that pigmented. At least two swipes are needed for the color to show properly. Though it does cover pigmented lips, I don’t like applying a high amount of this product because it feels so buttery and heavy on the lips. It also quickly settles into fine lines so applying a lot of this lipstick is not advisable. Overall, the pigmentation of the lipstick is okay but considering the fact that I hate the quality and texture of the product I choose not to apply multiple swipes of the lipstick, which in turn causes the lipstick to fade in a few hours.

Longevity:

This lipstick smudges A LOT! I don’t think I’ve come across any lipstick yet that smudges as much as this one does. Even while applying the lipstick for the first time, I could notice that it was going all over the place. You cannot go for more than 2 or 3 hours with the lipstick being intact because though the tint of the color can last up to a long time, smudged lipstick never looks good. Further, it transfers a lot so I believe after every meal you would have to reapply this lipstick which is a big no for me. I don’t like to do touch-ups when I’m out and hence I always prefer makeup that is long-lasting. But with this lipstick, it is a constant hassle. For some instances, it can even be really embarrassing when your lipstick transfers into the drinks you’re having and for that reason, I choose not to wear this lipstick when I know I would be out having a meal because it just doesn’t work.

Overall, I am highly disappointed with NYX regarding this particular range. It is a pity that I don’t even wear this gorgeous shade due to the dire quality of the lipstick.

NYX Butter Lipstick Afternoon Heat 3

NYX Butter Lipstick Afternoon Heat 4

Pros:
  1. Beautiful shade
  2. Sturdy packaging
  3. Affordable
Cons:
  1. Very thick, creamy texture
  2. Not smudge-proof
  3. Transfers a lot
  4. Not highly pigmented
  5. Doesn’t hydrate lips
  6. Settles into fine lines

Overall rating: 2.5/5

Would I recommend/repurchase?

Definitely not. Though the shade is beautiful, I don’t see the point of having a lipstick which you wouldn’t use a lot. The texture of the lipstick irks me a lot and the fact it smudges like anything only makes me regret ever purchasing this in the first place. Though the lipstick is affordable, there are several other drugstore lipsticks on the market with so much better quality.

Thank you so much. I know, it’s a shame such a pretty shade didn’t end up in my good books :-(
