My experience with NYX Butter Gloss Devil’s Food Cake

Packaging

The packaging is pretty. The name of the shade is written on the bottom of the packaging and the pack itself depicts the color of the butter gloss. This makes it easy to choose whichever color you want to apply when in a hurry.

Texture

It has a smooth, creamy texture which glides easily on the lips

How to use

Open the cap to reveal the applicator. Glide on the lips and build the color however required

Fragrance

It smells like choco-caramel cookies. It’s difficult to resist the smell.

My experience

I have always loved the butter balms from NYX and wanted to see how these butter glosses would be. When I went to the NYX website, I read the description and was tempted to try these butter glosses. Frankly, I am not used to wearing lip glosses since I feel they are sticky and dry out the lips.  But the description and the names were so tempting, I purchased a few shades. The shade “Devil’s food cake” is a sort of maroon-ish shade that will suit people of all skin tones and also people who have pigmented lips. I purchased this and applied it without wearing any lipstick. It settled comfortably on my lips in around 10 minutes. After around 3 hours or so, I realized the lip gloss was still there (it had faded lightly). I had light snacks and water during those 3 hours. I was super-impressed with this since, for the price, this product seemed promising. This shade is a deep maroon shade hence It covered my dark lips as well. It didn’t dry my lips or attract dirt or sticky. It didn’t bleed or feather out as well. I also applied it over one of my lipsticks and this stayed for a good 5 hours and gave a glossy effect(not shimmery) which I loved. In all, I love the shade of this lip gloss and I would love to try other darker shades like this.

Overall Performance of NYX Butter Gloss Devil’s Food Cake

Pros

  • Easy to apply
  • Easy to carry
  • Doesn’t bleed
  • Moisturizes lips
  • Variety of shades to suit all skin tones
  • Doesn’t attract dirt
  • Not tested on animals
  • Affordable
  • Stays for about 3 to 5 hours
  • No feathering
  • The packaging shows the shade (no need to open the container every time)

Cons

  • Availability is an issue
  • Transfers to a certain extent

Would I repurchase or recommend?

Yes, I recommend this to people who want a change from the same old lipsticks. An option is you can use this over a lipstick as well. This shade is something that will suit any kind of skin tone. So, girls, if you are looking for a lip gloss that is affordable and super-amazing, go for this. I will repurchase darker shades similar to this from the brand.
