Winter calls for dark, decadent shades that are a little wicked and in your face. Most of my dark lipsticks have been in the maroon…wine segment…till life threw in a deviation by the name colorsensational chocoholic.

The Maybelline Colorsensational Loaded Bold Lipstick Chocoholic was a gift from a friend…this is one of those shades that’s completely different from the lipstick palette I usually experiment with. I mostly go with pinks, reds, corals, and peaches and this is chocolate brown with reddish maroon undertones that literally arrests attention!!…i had read about the loaded bold shades and this one is amongst the most tryworthy of them…there are whites and blacks in there which require loads of spunk to be worn.

One fine day I wore my safe white on blue outfit…kept the rest of the face nude and slathered on chocoholic on my lips… see how this one fared…

Brand Claim 

As I have mentioned in earlier reviews…Maybelline’s web front is rather confusing. The product is mentioned as a creamy lip color in a full spectrum of shades (there isn’t a full spectrum of shades by the way). Other claims are “delicious honey nectar leaves a creamy finish” (there is no honey nectar in it and neither is the finish creamy…its matte). Another one says “available in pigment loaded shades” (now that’s a correct claim).

My Experience with Maybelline Colorsensational Loaded Bold Lipstick Chocoholic

The packaging isn’t super attractive, it’s just passable. There is a sturdy pleasant looking indigo fiber cap and the lipstick has a shiny silver body. From my previous experience with Maybelline lipsticks, I know the lipstick packaging is tough…

It’s winter and unfortunately for me that signals peely cracked lips. The loaded bold range is pure matte (quite different from creme matte that I had reviewed before) and I really needed to moisturize my lips well before I could apply this.

The lipstick felt a little dry on my lips…I just applied it once and I got a pretty intense shade. It blew up minor cracks on my lips and I had to apply two coats of Vaseline as a base to stop that from happening. As for the color…it reminded me of a tall glass of melted chocolate with red berry toppings…it’s warm, wicked and utterly lickable 😉 I totally loved the shade …the way it combines brown with red undertones and how it added drama to my face

The color tends to rub off a little easily in the beginning…you have to give it at least half an hour to settle. Once settled it will stay on for 4 to 5 hours …if you eat a full meal… it will come off faster.

One major drawback I could think of is that the lipstick can make your pearlies look a little yellow. If you are in no mood to draw attention to your teeth then this isn’t the shade for you. Otherwise, if you are ok with moisturization and want to show off your dazzling smile then all you need is chocoholic on your lips.

Overall Performance of Maybelline Colorsensational Loaded Bold Lipstick Chocoholic

The USP of this Maybelline shade is the intense color it produces in a single swipe. The color is tempting and sensual and though you must test it yourself…I guess it would suit most Indian skin tones. This is a throwback to those gorgeous and in your face 90’s colors that still dominate the ramp ☺

This lipstick lasts an okay span of time…carry it in your bag, you would need to reapply. For dry lipped girls like me, there is the extra need for moisturisation….I didn’t really mind the effort of putting on lip gloss/ vaseline. I had at least 5 different people ask me about the shade…it does attract attention 😉

Would I recommend?

I got this lipstick as a gift just a few weeks back and totally dig the color. will definitely repurchase a similar shade with more moisturizing capacity. Would rate this one 3.5/5 …it needs more staying power and a little more moisture. Personally, I think the shade will work with both daywear and evening wear…I wore it during the day with satisfactory results. This is a bold in your face lipstick with a completely matte effect☺
