Max Factor Captivating Ruby Lip Gloss Review: Are you a lipstick girl or a gloss girl? I have always come across girls who belong to only one of the categories. Still, I feel, you should try both of these…mixing and matching and shuffling things along!
In my experience, a good lip gloss can overcome the faults of many a lipstick…and a good lipstick base can make a gloss pop. You never know, which suits for the occasion at hand 😉 :p I recently bought this red lip gloss from Superdrug and the main reason for buying this was the cute gold and red packaging. I own enough red lip glosses and creamy lip paints in red too but still wanted to add on the collection.
What is it and who is it for?
A rich red lip gloss, suitable for layering over lipsticks or on its own.

My Experience with Max Factor Color Elixir Lip Gloss Captivating Ruby:
The color is called captivating ruby and it is truly so. This is a beautiful tomato red color of gloss and has a luscious finish to it. I would not say this is sheer, it comes out quite pigmented and true to color in the tube, but as you apply it, it kind of sheers out. It looks very wet; the effect is shiny but only water shine. The gloss has no shimmer to it at all.
It feels very soft on the lips and almost works to nourish the lips like a lip balm. The gloss tends to bleed out the clear liquid soon after application. Is it not the case with most shiny water shine wet-lip look lip glosses? I hate this feeling when the clear liquid separates from the gloss.
This in turn makes the gloss look messy. The lips look messy soon enough. The gloss would easily last you for more than two hours if you are alright to keep the messy look on. I tried using a lip liner which helps the gloss to adhere well to the lip no doubt.
It comes with a very common wand to apply it with, and it picks up enough products, there is nothing revolutionary about the wand here.I quite like the color because it really brightens the face up. This will be a great color for weddings and parties as it will reflect the light making lips look shiny and supple. Be sure to use a lip liner underneath. The color is ideal for warm skin and most skin tones that like red would be able to carry this.
The final word on this gloss will be that though it is a luscious red and has a water shine wet look to it, it bleeds a lot and I find it very similar to many other glosses I have tried in the past. It is a very average gloss and nothing to fall head over heels in love with.
Positives of Max Factor Captivating Ruby:

- Brightens the face due to the bright red it is
- Feel supple on the lips
- Great for weddings and parties
- True to the color
- Stays fairly well
- No-fuss packaging
Negatives of Max Factor Captivating Ruby:
- Bleeds soon enough
- Common color, you can find many substitutes for such red glosses
- May feel slightly heavy
Would I repurchase and recommend it?
If you do not own a shiny red gloss, then you could consider this one, a red gloss is essential to all makeup kits. But in case you do own something similar, you can give this a miss.
