Lakme Eyeshadow | 9 to 5 Silk Route

by Sreeparna Ganguly

Colourful eyeshadow palettes are an absolute must-have for every eye makeup enthusiast no matter how many neutral eye palettes are there in your kitty. A pop of color can give your otherwise sultry look a funky festive touch. Glittery eyes are the thing for everyone these days but those glitter powders too need a perfectly blended and color-matched base which only a colorful eyeshadow can give. I feel Lakme understands Indian girls’ best and that is why their eye palettes are suitable across skin tone. Today I am playing through a gorgeous and bountiful eye palette from Lakme, the Lakme Eyeshadow |9 to 5 Silk Route.

My Experience with Lakme Eyeshadow |9 to 5 Silk Route

Packaging- This palette comes in a plastic pan. Keeping up the theme of Lakme’s 9 to 5 range the base of the pan is rose-gold colored. The lid is however transparent to give the user an idea about the shades. The packaging is sleek so it fits in travel-vanity perfectly but its plastic outer cover might break under pressure. There is not much information regarding the ingredients; just a user guide is provided.

Shade & Texture- This palette houses 4 eyeshadows. The eye colors in this palette are either in shimmer or in a satin finish. All the shades have golden shimmers which go really well with warm Indian skin tones. There are two shades of pink, a bronze and a glittery grey eyeshadow in the palette. Let’s go through the palette shade by shade.

Light Pink– This is a shimmery shade. Its texture is very blendable; neither too powdery nor too hard. This is quite pigmented and has fine golden shimmers. This shade shows up on my pigmented lids so it would fare all skin tones well. This is a perfect shade for creating naturally glowing lids look.

Deep Pink– This shade has a satiny finish with warm golden tone. The shade is super pretty but it is a bit difficult to work with. The shade has weird sticky texture. It is not very easy to take out in a brush or even into the fingers. If you are able to put the shade on your lids, it would sit there unblended even after heavy blending.

Bronze– This is one of the best shades of this palette. This shade goes with both day and night looks. It has pigmented, smooth and blendable texture. It can be used as an all over the lid shade as well. The warmth of this shade makes it perfect for most traditional dresses.

Grey– This is yet another fabulous shade to work with. It is very intense in pigment and its texture is smooth as well. Grey is considered as a cool shade so most of the time grey eyeshadows are given silver shimmers; this one, however, has golden glitters to it. This shade is perfect for a letter smokey eye or even a contour shade for the outer V.

Fragrance- It is a fragrance free palette.

Experience- To tell you the truth, my experience with this palette is below satisfactory. Though the shade selection is perfectly suitable for Indian complexions and undertones, all the shades are in shimmer or satin finishes. There is no flesh toned blending shade provided. That is why this palette alone cannot create a complete eye look that is not heavy glittery. I had lots of expectations from the deep pink shade but its unblendable texture was quite disappointing. The other shades are however quite nice for single shadow looks or smokey eyes. The shades stay for 5-6 hours without any primer. After that, they start to fade. Primer, of course, increases the intensity and stay time. This palette comes handy when I am in hurry and the time does not permit for a multiple shadow look. The shades are great for traditional winged eyeliner look.

Overall Performance of Lakme Eyeshadow |9 to 5 Silk Route

Pros-

  1. Festive eye shadow kit with warm-toned shades
  2. Shades are perfect for Indian skin
  3. Pigmentation is good
  4. Staying power is satisfactory
  5. Can be worn for single eyeshadow looks as well as smokey eyes

Cons-

  1. Texture of the deep pink shade is not at all good
  2. No crease shade is provided
  3. All shades are either glittery or shimmery
  4. Ingredient detail is not given
  5. User guide is not very useful

Would I Repurchase or Recommend?

Lakme 9 to 5 Eye Color Quartet Silk Route contains some awesome warm toned eye shows for Indian skin but all the shadows are not same in quality. There is no crease shade and all the shades are in glitter finish. So, I will not be buying this palette another time. I would like to try some other colorful palette. I would suggest the Tanjore Rush palette from the same 9 to 5 eye quartet range instead of this one.

I think these shades are for single shade use only with no transition color included. the Revlon one has better shade combos.
Very nicely written though. 🙂

Thanks Juhi :rose:
There is no other way to use these shadows than as single shades.
Though the user guide mentions an way to combinae these shades for a single look but the mentioned way does not look that flattering :no

How can one work with such tiny applicator.. A lot of beginners don’t have brushes and they just swear by the applicator .. At 600 this pallet is a disappointment.. ??

Right you are..
The applicator’s sponge crumbles up after 3-4 uses.. Mine has been ruined on one side..
