Khadi Rose Water Toner – Is it Good?

by Sreeparna Ganguly

Face freshener is a must in my summer skincare essentials. My combination skin starts to behave like oily skin in the humid weather and oily face is like a dirt and grime magnet. It is not a good practice to cleanse the face with face washes more than 2-3 times so I like to use face fresheners in between two face wash applications. Rosewater is my favorite go-to face freshener. But this summer I wanted to try something else with my usual rose water. I had set my budget to under Rs.100 and in that price range, the only alcohol-free face toner available was the Khadi Rose Water Toner. Khadi skin care items, especially their lotions, have worked for me in the past. Let’s see if this toner could keep up my goodwill or not.

My Experience with Khadi Natural Herbal Skin Toner Rosewater

Packaging- This toner comes in a transparent bottle with a black plastic cap. The cap has screw opening as well as flip-open mechanism. There is another cap provided at the opening of the bottle. This is a stopper type cap. The packaging is quite simple and common. Every fluid consistency product from Khadi has the same packaging. The packaging is sturdy. But it is not that leak-proof when only the outer black cap is attached. You need to use the stopper to make it capable to carry in your travel-vanity. This toner is available in one size; 210ml. No other trial pack is available.

Colour & Texture- The toner is a colorless liquid. It is very light in consistency. It feels and looks like water. Generally, store-bought rose waters like Dabur gulabari have slightly oily texture due to the presence of rose oil but this one is completely oil-free. That makes this rosewater toner perfect for all types of skin including oily to the extremely oily skin.

Fragrance- This product has a mild rose smell. The smell does feel ayurvedic but is not identical to the fragrance of pure rosewater. The fragrance lasts only a few seconds and then goes away completely.

Experience- When I was ordering this product I missed the description that mentioned it is a ‘toner’ not pure ‘rosewater’. Though the main ingredient of it is water and rosewater, the formula also contains aloe vera. This toner is basically a hydrating watery liquid completely free of alcohols. Some preservatives and fragrances might have been used but the complete ingredient list is not revealed in the packaging. The consistency of this toner is non-oily. I have used this as a face freshener and it works really well. I sometimes use it to lighten the consistency of my store-bought face masks. It gets dissolved easily and helps my packs to achieve the desired consistency. As a toner, it works like plain rose water. I have experienced no new acne after using it but there was no pore tightening effect or oil-cleansing effect. It just hydrates the face and removes superficial impurities.

Would I Repurchase or Recommend?

Khadi Natural Herbal Skin Toner Rosewater is basically a standard substitute for plain rose water. Its light alcohol-free non-oily texture makes it a good face freshener and hydrating toner. It does not give any pore tightening action which we expect from a toner. This is cheaper than normal rose water. I might buy it again as a face freshener.

Yes it can be a substitute for rose water. Price wise it is slightly cheaper than a regular rose water.
