K3 JW Marriott Delhi – My Experience

by Movish

A traffic jam on NH 8 on our way to Cyber Hub from Delhi, saw us change our plans and all ten of us landed up at K3 JW Marriott Delhi all frustrated and fed up after being stranded on the road for a couple of hours. Just minutes later we were all full of beans and chirping away to glory- such was the effect the serene AMBIENCE and warm HOSPITALITY of K3 had on us. The staff was very courteous and prompt in serving us once they realized how tired, hungry and cranky we were.

The Ambience:

The restaurant has scores of options in diverse cuisines. The only drawback in this huge space that K3 occupies is that the food counters of different cuisines are spread haphazardly around the restaurant and you actually have to seek out what is placed where.

As we were seated at the furthermost corner at a round table, getting around for food was not exactly a cake walk but still, we were happy to be able to hold animated conversations. The lighting here is bright yet soothing at the same time. The black latticework grills placed cleverly here and there give a smart and chic feel to the place while also ensuring a tiny semblance of privacy. There’s a private dining room tucked away in a corner, done up with a lot of panache with glittering chandeliers and wall mounted artworks.

Then there were many live stations -Indian, Oriental, Italian, a full-fledged Salad Bar(also live), to customize the tastes according to your preferences. The Dessert counter was also massive, The desserts looked very tempting but I could not sample most of them as I wanted to avoid eggs that day.Though I stayed a vegetarian that day, I was still able to eat very well because of a plethora of vegetarian options. But still, the glutton in me decided to be back another day to be able to do complete justice to the huge spread.

This was a few months ago. When it was time to usher in a birthday with the same set of friends, K3 happened to be our unanimous choice. And we asked for the same table again :)

The place was full, it is a Saturday night. This time around I was able to give my complete attention to food. I started off with an Oriental Clear Soup with lots of greens, glass noodles, and burnt garlic. To go with it I chose to have deep fried Veggie Pouches and Chicken Dim sums. All were just terrific. There is such an abundance of food in a buffet and the menu keeps on changing on a daily basis so there is not much point in describing everything that I tasted. Let me just mention the superstars of my glorious meal!!

The Food:

I especially want to mention the Tandoori Chicken first of all for its brilliant spicing and succulence and then the batter fried Amritsari Fish. I also relished a few bites of their freshly baked bread, outstanding in quality, with just a dip I made instantly with a dash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil flavored with dried herbs.

I really enjoyed the Stir-Fried Veggies with Noodles. They were delectable, made to my exact specifications. The Rum and Sugar soaked Pears were relished by all and brought to our table in copious quantities. A Bhindi dish cooked in a delish tangy Kasundi based sauce was a novelty for me.I even tasted a superbly assembled Bhalla Papri Chaat a friend ordered and it could have given the authentic street side version a run for its money.

The Spinach and Ricotta stuffed Ravioli in a tomato sauce, so lovingly cooked by Chef Vincenzo Sirna himself after we chatted for a bit, was easily the highlight of the meal.

The plate was polished off within moments of being placed on the table by my friends (Didn’t even allow me to click a half decent pic! Bhukkads!!:) The Spaghetti with sweetened sundried tomatoes ,mushrooms and olives in a Pesto sauce was also nice although I’m not much of a fan of using spinach along with basil for the Pesto as I feel it dilutes the distinctive flavours.

Moving on to desserts – (yes, we binged on desserts too! Don’t drop your jaw yet !)There was a variety of fresh cut fruits to choose from but I chose to sin than be safe :) A Caramel topped pastry was to die for and it honestly took all my willpower to stop at one.

A generous helping of an excellent Chocolate Truffle Cake and a jar of Raspberry Mousse is what put my sweet cravings to rest.

There were loads of tempting looking jars of sauces n toppings and a host of Indian sweets too which kept on beckoning me but I was able to ignore them owing to a tummy bursting at the seams.Oooff!

The Service:

The SERVICE was very efficient and the staff was very thorough in following instructions about the particular ingredients of the dishes we asked to be brought to the table.Their courtesy and thoughtfulness have to be a major factor contributing to our enjoyment of the evening. We were at K 3 till the wee hours, sipping on our Green Teas to settle our bloated systems and the smiles of our wait staff remained in place.

I cannot think of a better way to spend half a night than in the company of old friends and great food and wine. This fabulous dinner came to Rs 3500/-per head approximately, with two bottles of wine and some priceless moments with friends.

It definitely should score a 4.5/5
