How to get rid of mouth ulcers: Mouth ulcers or canker sores are one or more painful lesions in the oral and buccal cavity. They can appear on the tongue, gums, the roof of the mouth, inner lips, outer lips or throat. They usually disappear in a time period of 1 – 2 week. They generally don’t indicate anything serious but may interfere with activities like talking, drinking and eating. But an extremely painful big non – healing mouth ulcer can be caused to worry about.

How to get rid of mouth ulcers

Causes:

  • Vitamin deficiency

Deficiency of vitamins-like B-12 and minerals like iron, folate or zinc can be a cause of ulcers.

  • Trauma to the oral mucosa

Activities like vigorous brushing and trauma due to dental braces.

  • Food and drinks induced

Fruits containing citric acids like orange, lemon, tomato, pineapple, and strawberry. Hot drinks and spicy food can act as an aggravating factor for the ulcers.

  • Infections

Bacterial, viral or fungal infections can be an underlying cause of the ulcers.

  • Stress-related

These type of ulcers are more common in teenagers.

  • Stomach or intestinal problems

Constipation or gastrointestinal problems can lead to mouth ulcers.

Prevention:
  1. Maintain good oral hygiene
  2. Intake of healthy nutritious diet
  3. Gentle brushing of the teeth
  4. Intake of foods or supplements containing Vitamin B, C, and zinc
  5. Avoiding the intake of hot drinks and spicy food
  6. Indulging in stress-busting activities
  7. Take plenty of fluids
Home Remedies:

Remedy 1: Baking Soda

Ingredients:
  1. Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  2. Warm water – ½ cup
Procedure:
  1. Add baking soda to a cup containing warm water.
  2. Stir it well.
  3. Swish the solution in your mouth for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Rinse your mouth with plain water.
  5. Repeat this twice to thrice a day.

Remedy 2: Garlic Juice

Ingredients:
  1. Garlic – 2 to 3 cloves
  2. Cotton swab
Procedure:
  1. Crush garlic cloves and extract juice from them.
  2. Collect this juice in a bowl.
  3. Apply this garlic juice directly on the ulcers using a cotton swab.
  4. Leave it for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Rinse your mouth with plain water.
  6. Repeat it twice a day.

Remedy 3: Turmeric- Yogurt

Ingredients:
  1. Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
  2. Yogurt – 1 tablespoon
Procedure:
  1. Mix Turmeric powder and yogurt in a bowl to make a thick paste out of it.
  2. Apply this mixture directly on the ulcers.
  3. Leave it on for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Rinse well with plain water.
  5. Repeat it twice a day.
