Elle 18 Color Pops Rusty Lipstick 29 Review

by Sreeparna Ganguly

Very few of us can confidently carry ‘it’s there on your face’ kind of orange lip colors. For those who are not confident enough, it is best to play safe. By ‘safe’ I did not mean you just forget about orange lipsticks, I meant to start from toned down oranges. There are lots of muted orange shades; some have a red or pink hue to orange while the other ones have earthy tones to it. I prefer the second category because they look almost neutral on my lips with a hint of orange. The muted orange lip color that I have been using a lot is the shade Elle 18 Color Pops Rusty Lipstick 29. Here is how I feel about it.

My Experience with Elle 18 Color Pops Rusty Lipstick 29

Packaging- This lipstick comes in a black plastic bullet with round-headed lid. The lid has a click-shut mechanism to secure the lipstick from getting damaged. The lipstick bullet needs to be twisted at the base to reveal the lipstick.

Fragrance- This lipstick has floral scent to it. The scent seems artificial to me but due to its low intensity, the fragrance does not feel bothersome. Plus, the smell does not stay long so I am not that concerned about the scent.

Shade & Pigmentation- Rusty is a burnt orange type shade with medium opacity. The shade has distinct warm undertones to it. This shade will complement Indian skin tones because the majority of Indian complexions have that same warmth in the skin undertones. The shade is very wearable. It can be used for daily wear for daytime as well as night time. It will make a nice lip color to be used in workplaces and college. The color payoff is good to provide full cover to medium pigmented to pigmented lips. This shade may fail to give full coverage to extremely pigmented lips.

Texture & Finish- This lipstick has smooth and creamy consistency. The lipstick bullet has a lip balm filled center that gives moisturization to the lips. The finish of this lipstick is creamy; not glossy. It keeps the lips moisturized but does not give uncomfortable greasiness. There is no need to moisturized lips prior to applying this shade on the lips.

Staying Power- This lipstick stays 3-4 hours on my lips. It does not survive meals and tends to transfer a lot. Even the pricier cream finish lipsticks with light shade show such results on my lips so I cannot put the blame on this 100 bucks product.

Experience- This muted orange lip color looks peachy nude on my lips. When I am in no mood to do too much makeup I apply this one. This lipstick’s warmth gives a boost of brightness to the whole face. I can easily skip on concealer because it shifts the attention from my face. In my opinion, this kind of rust shade should be there on everyone’s vanity. However, the shade does not look same on everyone’s lips because of its low-medium color pay-off. I need to do 2-3 swipes to get the true color on my lips. For more pigmented lips this one looks like a subtle hint of burnt orange. Sometimes we need this kind of shade since it goes well with most yellow, orange, white and other light warm shade outfits. I would say, this particular lipstick will make a beginner’s choice rather than experienced ones!
