What are Home Remedies to Cure Goiter ?

by Diksha S

What is a goiter?

Goiter is swelling in the throat caused due to abnormal levels of thyroid hormones. Both hyperthyroidism ( excess of thyroid hormones) and hypothyroidism (less amount of thyroid hormones) may trigger goiter.

What are Home Remedies to Cure Goiter ?

Remedies to cure goiter at home:

1) Apple Cider Vinegar

  • How this works: Apple Cider vinegar has a slightly low pH. This acidic pH helps it restore the body’s natural pH thereby improving body functions and iodine uptake in the body. The swelling of the goiter goes away as the iodine uptake in the body increases.
  • What you need:
  1. Apple cider vinegar(1 teaspoon)
  2. Honey (1/2 teaspoon)
  3. A glass of warm water
  • How to use this?

Mix all the ingredients together and consume this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

  • How often do you need to follow through?

For best results try consuming this every day.

2) Lime and Garlic for goiter:

  • Why does this work?

Much like Apple cider vinegar lime juice too is acidic and has a low pH. It works to maintain the normal pH of the body and in turn boosts iodine uptake.  Apart from this both lime and garlic have anti-inflammatory as well as antimicrobial compounds. They work together to detox your body and also eliminate microbes that may be infectious.

  • What do you need?
  1. Lime juice – 1 tablespoon
  2. Garlic – 1 clove
  3. Honey- 1 teaspoon
  • How do you use this?

Crush the garlic and mix it with lime juice and honey.

Drink this paste on an empty stomach in the morning.

  • How often should you do this?

Ideally, you should follow this tip every morning.

3) Pineapple Juice for goiter:

  • Why does this work?

Pineapples contain a number of anti-inflammatory compounds and are rich in vitamins. These compounds work to reduce the swelling in your throat. Also, carrots and pineapples are a rich storehouse of antioxidants

  • What do you need?
  1. 4-5 pineapple pieces
  2. A medium-sized carrot
  3. 2 tomatoes
  • How to use this?

a)Cut the tomatoes and carrots into small pieces.

b) Blend all the ingredients together till it becomes a smooth paste.

c) Add water to adjust consistency.

d) Consume this juice when it is at room temperature or is slightly chilled.

  • How often should you do this?

Try drinking this every day.

4)Exercise for goiter:

  • Why does this work?

It has been proven by studies that neck exercises especially those which include stretching are very effective in reducing goiters. If you exercise regularly along with the above-mentioned tips. Reducing goiter becomes easier. If you do these following exercises the thyroid and it’s adjoining muscles get stretched. This stretching improves the blood flow to these muscles, thereby reducing the goiter.

  • What do you need to do?

Just follow these simple exercises regularly in combination with any of the above-mentioned tips. Keep in mind to not overexert yourself while doing these. Stretch to your maximum potential without causing any sort of discomfort or pain to yourself. It is advised to stop the exercise as soon as you feel pain.

  • Upward Neck stretch:

Sit on a chair or anywhere comfortable in an upright position. Lift your chin towards the ceiling. While doing so stretch your neck to your maximum potential. When you reach the maximum stretch possible try being in that position for a few seconds.

  • Sideways Neck stretch:

Sitting in a similar position, start by slowly bending your neck to one side. Your ear should touch your shoulder on the same side. Try stretching your neck as much as possible. Repeat this on the other side.

  • How often should you do this?

The upward neck exercise must be repeated 10-13 times a day and it must be done regularly.

The sideways stretching should be done every day with 10 repeats.

Guide to Celtic Brooches: History, Styles, and Meanings

Among the oldest and most symbolic pieces of jewelry within Celtic culture are the Celtic brooches. These decorative pins hold a rich history as they have been worn for centuries and continue to be cherished for their beauty and cultural significance. Here is everything you need to know about Celtic brooches, their history, styles, and meanings.

History of Celtic Brooches

Celtic brooches date back to the early Celtic period, around 700 BCE, and were used mainly as functional fasteners to secure clothing such as capes, cloaks, or tunics. These jewelry pieces became more elaborate and decorative, showcasing intricate Celtic designs and symbols. In some cases, Celtic brooches were used to symbolize status, connection to nature, heritage, and identity.

Styles of Celtic Brooches

There isn’t a single type of Celtic brooch. Quite the contrary. They come in various styles, and each of them has their own unique characteristics and regional influences. Some of the most prominent styles are:

  • Penannular Brooch

The Penannular Brooch is among the most iconic Celtic brooch designs. Featuring a circular or semi-circular shape, the Penannular brooch has an open space in the center. The brooch is formed by a pin that passes through the fabric and is secured by rotating it around the circle. One important aspect of Penannular Celtic brooches is that they often exhibit intricate knotwork and Celtic spiral designs.

  • Disc Brooch

Celtic disc brooches are also known as plate brooches. They are flat circular brooches that come with intricate designs on the front. These brooches are usually adorned in Celtic motifs, such as animals, interlacing patterns, or zoomorphic designs. Sometimes, disc brooches have a hook or pin on the back for fastening.

  • Trumpet Brooch

Trumpet brooches are trumpet-like brooches that taper from a wider end to a narrower end. These brooches feature intricate filigree work, with delicate metal wires forming various patterns such as spirals, knots, and other Celtic motifs.

  • Tara Brooch

The Tara brooches are among the brooches with the most intricate detailing and craftsmanship and are considered Celtic masterpieces of art. These Celtic brooches date back to the 8th century and feature intricate patterns of interlacing knotwork, precious gemstone settings, and animal forms.

Guide to Celtic Brooches: History, Styles, and Meanings

Symbolism and Meanings of Celtic Brooches

Celtic brooches are rich in symbolism and meaning as, throughout the years, they represented various important aspects of Celtic culture and mythology. Many Celts believed brooches protected the wearer and warded off evil spirits while traveling. Some believed that they brought good fortune.

When nature-inspired designs were incorporated in Celtic brooches, such as plants, animals, and spirals, they took on different meanings. Yet, overall, these types of brooches symbolize how everything is interconnected through nature or showcase the cyclical nature of life.

Celtic brooches were also used as expressions of one’s own Celtic heritage and identity. They serve and continue to serve as symbols of pride and a connection to Celtic roots and traditions. In other instances, Celtic brooches showcased a higher social status. The intricately designed and more complex brooches were often worn by individuals with high social status, indicating their power, wealth, and prestige.

Tips For Doing Nail Art At Home

Tips For Doing Nail Art At Home

by Bhumika G

Hi Girls! Today I am sharing some very simple but important Tips For Doing Nail Art At Home. Here they are –

Tips For Doing Nail Art At Home

  • Using ear-buds for designs:

Nail art tools can get very expensive. A very cheap alternative for round tipped tool would be ear-buds. They can be used to make flowers, polka dots, etc.

  • Using ear-buds to remove nail polish from your skin:

Using nail polish remover wipes or cotton can get really risky because you can sometimes accidentally wipe off the nail polish on your skin because of the wide surface area. To prevent this, dip an ear-bud in your nail polish remover and swipe it on the areas of your skin where you applied the nail polish.

  • Using tape for painting straight lines:

You can use a tape to cover a part of your nail and paint the rest. You can as well leave a gap in between and paint that part to get straight lines lines, you can keep covered half part of your nail and color the rest making a two colored nail; the same way, you can do that with 3 colors, you can do French nails with it as well and a lot other things.

  • Using tape to cover your skin:

We often do nail arts which get on the skin and there is no way we can prevent doing that. For which, we require something that can cover the skin. Applying tape on the skin area around the nail will prevent the nail polish from getting on your nails. You can even use Fevicol instead of tape.

  • Using a hair dryer to dry your nails faster:

It can get really annoying to wait for your nail polish to dry and not being able to do any work. You can use a hair dryer to dry out your nail polish faster.

  • Using a tea bag to heal your broken nails:

Cut out a small part of the tea bag sheet and place it on the chipped part of your nail. Apply a base coat or any nail polish on top of it. This will keep the tea bag secured and will protect the nail as well.

  • How to make an inexpensive nail polish stay on your nails for long:

One disadvantage of buying inexpensive nail polishes is that they don’t stay on the nails for long. Buying expensive nail polishes won’t be very pocket-friendly. You can collect a bunch of inexpensive nail polishes and top it with an expensive top coat. This way, the nail polish will stay for long and it won’t cost you a lot of money.

  • Sketch pen art:

If you don’t have any nail art tools, you can make use of permanent markers or sketch pen to draw the designs that you want on your nail. Top your art with a top coat to keep it secure.

  • Toothpick art:

Tooth picks are also a very good alternative for nail art tools.

  • How to reuse a thickened up nail polish:

Add nail polish remover into the nail polish and shake it well for a few seconds. The thickened nail polish will become liquidy and ready to be used.

Lauki Juice Benefits

Lauki Juice Benefits

by Manidipa Ray

Lauki Juice Benefits: When summer is around, hydration becomes an essential part of your daily routine. The soaring mercury level causes an increased water loss in our system. So, it is that time of the year when all kinds of energy drinks come into handy. Among the list, Lauki ka juice remains to be a glowing option as a refreshing drink.

Lauki a.k.a Bottle gourd or Doodhi is basally sibling with cucumber, belonging to the same family. It is green with a white soft interior and shaped like a bottle (hence the name). It grows best in a tropical climate and is available widely in India. This means, as soon as you step in the veggie market; you are bound to find some.

Lauki Juice Benefits

Other than being a cool summer drink, it has a lot of goodness to offer as mentioned below:
  1. The high sodium content in lauki prevents fatigue; therefore it’s a great naturally procured energy drink.
  2. Aids in weight loss. A bottle gourd has 96 parts of water and 4 parts edible. It is also one of the vegetables with the lowest calorific value of 14 to 16J in 100g. So expect your dietician to mention this as a chief vegetable in your diet.
  3. It boosts immunity as the seeds are packed with antibiotic properties. So don’t throw them out while making the juice.
  4. It boosts memory power because of high lethicin content which is a source of choline, one of the essential vitamins.
  5. Because it is rich in dietary fibers, it clears constipation and prevents other digestive problems.
  6. It is good for heart patients, diabetic patients, and people with high blood pressure or cholesterol because of the presence of minerals, Zn, potassium, Mg, Mn, and iron.
  7. The alkaline juice balances PH in the urinary tract and also promotes urine production.
  8. Get your skin glowing and hydrated due to the presence of vitamins C, E, Folates and Riboflavin.

Disclaimer: If tastes bitter, do not have it. Probably the bottle gourd wasn’t a healthy one and neither is for you.   It is most effective when you have it on an empty stomach.

Do not consume the juice of raw vegetables. Boil your lauki first then cool it down. Mix it in a blender and sieve out the juice. Add a dash of salt or pepper and your refreshing health drink is ready!

How to Heal Scars on The Face?

Natural Recipes to Cure Acne Scars

  1. Lemon Juice

Lemon is a great choice to treat acne scars as it contains healing properties such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA). Squeeze the juice out of a lemon and slowly apply it on the scar using an earbud.

Lemon makes the skin sensitive to sunlight which can result in the darkening of the scar, so use and SPF moisturizer before you head out.

  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera contains in it the cooling properties that reduce the heat on the body, prevents scars and also removes scars. Just scarp of the Aloe Vera from its leaves and directly apply it on your face.

  1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are extremely good for preventing pimples and fading away from the scars as they are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin K. Cut a tomato slice and leave it on your scarred face or you can crush it and apply it on your face.

  1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is super beneficial when it comes to skin and hair. Apply a drop or two on the scar and slowly rub it in a circular motion.

Natural Tips for Burn Scars

Oils are the best choice when it comes to burning marks. Apply any one of the oils on your scar and massage it every night.

 Products to Fade Scars

  1. SilverX

SliverX is a really good and trusted product for scar removal. Usually, the medical shops don’t require the doctor’s prescription, but if your skin is allergic then I’d recommend you to consult a doctor before you use it.

Mederma is also an excellent choice to remove scars. Again, if you’re not sure whether it is fit for your skin, confirm with your doctor.

Lemon Juice Side Effects

Lemon Juice Side Effects: Be it weight loss or desire to achieve a brighter skin tone, lemon has always been our shining star. Also, would you enjoy your golgappa without some lemon squeezed? We use lemon juice as a key ingredient in many food items, health and beauty techniques on a regular basis. It has been used for ages and all not for trend.  This medicinal fruit is rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and minerals which are required by our body. Also, it adds great flavor to food.

But as we know, too much of anything has never done any good to us. Too much of lemon juice going into our system may also not show any beneficial result. In fact, it is harmful in some cases.

Lemon Juice Side Effects

See the Lemon Juice Side Effects :

  1. Teeth sensitivity: We often notice some people like to have salted lemon after a meal. Too much of this acid on teeth may wear off the teeth in the long run and also increase sensitivity.
  2. Dehydration: This may actually sound unbelievable but it’s true. Lime juice promotes the release of urine from the body. This way it decreases the water level in our bodies, causing dehydration.
  3. Migraines: The previous point brings us to this one. Lime juice can trigger migraines by lowering the water content in our bodies.
  4. Canker sores: These are the most painful oral infections that are worse than nightmares. Citric acid intensifies the pain and the sore. Make sure to not have lemon juice by any means when you are suffering from such sores.
  5. Triggers reflux stress: Do not drink lemonade when you are suffering from acidity as it will worsen it. Lemon juice may trigger gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD) resulting in Nausea, heartburn and vomiting.
  6. Avoid Lemon Ulcer patients: Lemon juice may get in the way of your healing ulcer by increasing the acid content of your stomach and can cause irritation in the stomach lining.
  7. No lemon for breakouts: When you have pimples or acne, it is advisable to not put lemon juice directly onto them as it may leave dark spots after it has healed.

Although we have rarely seen cases where lemon juice did more damage than good, there’s no harm in being informed and having lemon juice in controlled amounts. Having a glass of lemon juice with honey every day is more than safe. So, don’t freak out if you are doing that already. But reckon its side effects when you crave it too much.

  1. First Get Rid of Dead Skin Buildup

Skin is made up of two layers, the epidermis (outside) and dermis (inner). When your body produces newer skin cells, the old ones are shoved out toward the surface. This old cell then becomes dead as its place is taken by new cells. It stays for about a month, which means that you’re blessed with a new skin every month. Humans shed their skin more frequently than snakes do! Dead skin cells if not sloughed off regularly, can mix with the sebum and grime causing even more flare-ups. This becomes a breeding ground for bacteria to thrive. Therefore, it is important for you to exfoliate at least once a week.

Remedies

Control Excessive Oil

  • The sebaceous glands, located in each hair follicle or tiny bit of skin, produce oil that lubricates the skin. They are found in large numbers on the face, back, chest and shoulders. If some of the oil becomes trapped, bacteria proliferate in the follicle making the skin inflamed. Acne is caused due to the over-activation of these oil glands.

Important Things to Remember

  1. Do not overwash or over-exfoliate your face. Always use facewashes which are hypo-allergic and non-comedogenic
  2. Apply ice to your newly formed inflammations to constrict the blood vessels and stop them from forming into full-blown pimples or cysts
  3. For less severe acne, lavender can be used as a steam sauna as it kills germs and stimulates new cells.
  4. Use lacto calamine as a base instead of chemical-laden cosmetics which worsen the acne
  5. Include zinc-rich foods like nuts, whole grains, and sunflower seeds in your diet. Zinc decreases the overactivation of the oil glands thus reducing flare-ups.
  6. Apply green tea cold compress to the acne to reduce inflammation
  7. Crush an aspirin (Disprin) tablet to form a fine powder. Mix it with water to form a paste and then apply it to the pimple as an effective spot treatment
  8. Use diluted apple cider vinegar as a toner for oily skin

Good skin is made in the kitchen, not at the drugstore. However, if the condition persists or worsens it is always advisable to seek medical attention to determine the exact cause.
