Family & Early Life:

Kareena (known as Bebo) was born on 21 September 1980 in Mumbai. She is the daughter of the famous actor of 90s Randhir Kapoor and Babita. Not only her parents but almost all members of their family belong to Indian film industry starting from her paternal great grandfather- Prithviraj Kapoor. She has an elder sister Karishma Kapoor (known as Lolo) who also worked in the film industry for so long and gave so many hits.

After completing her schooling, she enrolled for the 3-month course of microcomputers from Harvard Summer School, United States and then studied Law for 1 year from a college in Mumbai but left as she wanted to pursue her career in the film industry.


To become an actor she started her training in a film institute. During her training, she got a role in Rakesh Roshan’s film ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar hai’ opposite Hrithik Roshan which she refused after several days of shooting as she felt that more importance will be given to his own son than her.  Later that year (2000) she debuted in Refugee opposite Abhishek Bachchan for which she won her first Filmfare for Best debuting Actor in a female role.

Her second release was Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai in 2001 with co-actor Tusshar Kapoor and then worked in many films. The real boost her career got was after getting cast in Karan Johar’s film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ after which she got famous for her role ‘Poo’. This film became the first Highest grossing film for Kareena’s career and the second-highest-grossing film of that year. It earned Rs. 1 billion worldwide and Kareena got nominated for her second Filmfare, IIFA and Screen Awards.

After that she gave so many hit films like Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, Jab We Met, Ra. One and many more. However, she faced a lot many ups and downs in her life.


She has been in a lot of controversies related to her love life. Her name has been joined with actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor and In fact, a controversial MMS video of her lip-locking with Shahid Kapoor also went viral but after all these, She was then in a relationship with actor Saif Ali Khan with whom she got married on 16 October 2016 in Bandra, Mumbai. Saif and Kareena also have a son- Taimur Ali Khan who has become an internet sensation from his childhood only.

Other Works:

Apart from being a successful actress, she has also done many social works form promoting Child education to the safety of women and even worked with UNICEF. She also hosted a radio show, participates in many stage shows, is a co-author of three books and has her own clothing and cosmetics line for women.
