Today I will take you through a few home remedies to manage migraine. I have a very long history (not history but a ‘hate story’!) of migraines. My migraine issue was detected when I was in 11th standard. For the first few years I relied on the over-the-counter and prescription medicines to tackle my migraine issues. But then I started trying some home remedies along with some preventive measures to reduce my pain reliever dependence. The two most important thing of my migraine fighting agenda are sleeping more and implementing various stress relieving strategies. I used to get painful migraine headaches 4-5 times a month before but now it has become 1-2 times. I would not say I am over with pain relief medicines but I try to be infrequent with them. When I get migraine pains now, I practice curative at-home treatments.

What is Migraine?

Migraine is a kind of throbbing headache on one side or both sides of the head that lasts from several hours to 2-3 days. The headache is sometimes triggered by strong smells, brighter lights, honking noises, sleep deprivation, active or passive smoking, alcohol intake, hunger pangs, low blood sugar, defective postures etc. Before a migraine attack people sometimes experience flashes of light, shadow spots, vomiting tendency, nausea, irritating sensations etc.

Migraine Managing Home Remedies:

  1. Topical Application of Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus Oil or Neelgiri Oil helps to blur the throbbing pain of migraine. For this you need to warm 1-2 drops of Eucalyptus Oil by rubbing between your thumb and index finger and apply at the pain area. This is a temporary solution but a very effective one. It numbs my pain for some time and helps me to get some sleep. This is my favourite migraine solution!

  1. Try Apple Cider Vinegar:

There are two ways to treat migraines with Apple Cider Vinegar; one is by consumption and the other is in compress. For the first method, 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar is mixed to a glass of water to make a drinking concoction to be used daily. You can even cool this mixture to use as cold compress solution.

Migraine is one thing which has haunted me throughtout and it was detected when i was in class 7th. Since then sometimes its 5-6 times to 2 times a month. And application of strong oils near the temple area makes my skin all red and irritated!

It is better to avoid strong oils then or you can mix the oil of your choice to any carrier oil that suits your skin. There are lots of preventive remedies too. You can try them as well 🙂
